On
Retreat with The Rev. Ron Rolheiser, omi
Over
the past few years Oblate Media and Communications have released several
presentations - using a DVD format - given by Ron Rolheiser, renowned
author, teacher and theologian. The topics of these presentations are
engaging, and seem to “speak” to participants of any age.
Due to the amount of information contained in each presentation, these DVD’s are frequently paused, to allow participants the opportunity to reflect on the material presented, respond to questions that invite them to reflect on how this material relates to their own lives, and engage in small group discussion. Each participant is given a detailed handout that summarizes the content of the presentation.
Ronald Rolheiser, a Roman Catholic
priest and member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI),
is president of the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas.
He is a community-builder, lecturer and writer. His books are popular
throughout the English-speaking world and his weekly column is carried
by more than sixty newspapers worldwide.
The
Invitation to Bless
A retreat for
participants of any age or life experience. In this DVD The Rev. Ron
Rolheiser talks about blessings in a whole new way: the focus is not
how to get them, or count them, but how to give them. Specifically he
says that the young “hunger for the father’s/mother’s blessing,” and
that older people must “feed the young.” As
elders, we are meant to order,
carry, feed and bless: o
to order: to be a principle of order (and not chaos) o to carry the young and not ask them to carry us o to feed the young, and not feed off the young o to bless the young In his warm and engaging style Fr. Rolheiser tells us
why we should offer blessings and support those younger than ourselves,
how to do it, and about the rewards for those giving and receiving blessings.
As Fr. Rolheiser says, “When we act like God we get to feel like God.” This DVD is 54 minutes long. During this retreat it is
paused throughout the viewing to give participants time to reflect on
the content, answer questions and participate in small group discussions.
A detailed handout summarizes the content of the presentation and suggests
questions for personal reflection and small group discussion. This is
an excellent half-day or evening retreat, and can be offered at any
time of the year. To bless someone: To see them; to speak well of them; to give our life for them... |
