The Holy Longing:
The Search for a Christian Spirituality
In his popular book The Holy Longing: The Search for a Christian
Spirituality, Fr. Ron Rolheiser suggests that Christian
spirituality is grounded in four pillars:
1. personal prayer
and private morality
2. a commitment to
social justice
3. cultivating a
grateful and generous heart
4. belonging to a
worshipping community
This compelling retreat offers participants the opportunity to reflect
on their own lives and ask, “do I have balance? Am I neglecting one of these
pillars?”” Originally presented in five sessions as a Lenten study, this
retreat can be formatted to fit any timeline. It includes presentations on
the four pillars, some time for silent reflection, and time for small group
discussion. Handouts with prepared questions for reflection are provided.
